PS for unity opens civic education workshop with call for collective participation

Principal Secretary for Unity in the Ministry of Local Government, Unity and Culture, Dr. Elizabeth Gomani Chindebvu, has urged Malawians to embrace collective responsibility in advancing the country’s development agenda.
Speaking on Tuesday when she opened a Trainers of Trainers workshop on Civic Education in Lilongwe, Dr. Gomani Chindebvu emphasized the need to reach every citizen with the right information and tools to foster national progress.
“Every Malawian should be reached with necessary information and tools to move together and achieve the Malawi 2063 agenda,” she said.
She further noted that mindset change is central to the country’s vision of self-reliance and shared prosperity.
“It’s a start for us to take responsibility for mindset change in order to be self-reliant and inclusively wealthy. No Malawian should be a spectator; we should all be participants,” she added.
According to Dr. Gomani Chindebvu, the workshop has drawn a multi-sectoral group of participants who will play a key role in cascading civic education nationwide.
“We have brought together a multi-sectoral cohort to equip Malawi with tools to actively shape the future. This workshop is a turning point, and civic education will reach all corners with the same clarity,” she emphasized.
One of the participants, Assistant Community Development Officer for Chikwawa, Peter Chinangwa, described the training as an eye-opener that will enhance his capacity to train other trainers on mindset change and citizen participation in development initiatives.
The Directorate of Civic Education convened the three-day Training of Trainers workshop under the Malawi Democratic Governance Programme (Boma Lathu), with support from GOPA Worldwide Consultants and the Delegation of the European Union to Malawi.
