All is set for this year’s Science for All (Sci4O) national quiz competition, with 12 government secondary schools expected to compete on 22 November 2025 at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe.

The contest, organised by the Malawi Liverpool Wellcome (MLW) Programme, was confirmed during a media briefing in Blantyre where Sci4O founder and chairperson Kondwani Jambo said the event has grown significantly since last year.

“We are excited to see the competition expanding from six schools to twelve. This shows that interest in science among young people is rising,” said Jambo.

Participating institutions include Likuni Girls Secondary School, Endendeni CDSS, Nkhulambe CDSS, Kasungu Secondary School, Chaminade Secondary School, Ndirande CDSS, Dedza Secondary School, Mzimba Secondary School, Chikwawa Secondary School, Soche Hill Secondary School, Mloza CDSS, and Mchinji Secondary School.

This year, 48 students will battle for prizes worth K10 million, with the top two schools receiving K3 million each in laboratory equipment and runners-up getting K2 million apiece.

Outstanding individual performers will also secure MLW internship opportunities.

“We pair national and community day secondary schools on purpose – to create fairness and expose all learners to equal opportunities,” added Jambo.

Main sponsor NICO Pension Services Company expressed pride in supporting the initiative.

“We believe science is key to Malawi’s development, and this competition is building future innovators,” said the company’s representative Stella Mphanga.

Last year’s overall winner Princess Kanyatula described the program as eye-opening.

“It gave me a new appreciation for how science connects to everyday decisions,” she said.
