Deputy Chief Justice Lovemore Chikopa has urged the newly sworn-in Members of Parliament (MPs) to exercise their duties diligently with humility and honesty.

Addressing members after the swearing-in ceremony, which took place on Tuesday at the parliament building in Lilongwe, Chikopa said the oath of office is a sacred covenant between them and the citizens who voted in their constituencies.

He said,”The National Assembly carries the hopes, aspirations, and challenges of Malawians, which are translated into law and policy.

“ May the 2025 to 2030 Parliament represent unity of purpose and fidelity to the constitution of Malawi as you exercise your duties of legislation, oversight, and representing your constituencies,” He stated.

Chikopa further urged the members to dedicate themselves to the people as they perform their work for the next 5 years

One of the elected MPs Khadija Leah Chunga, who is representing Kamphuno constituency in Lilongwe, highlighted that she is ready to deliver the promises made during the campaign.

She said they will ensure that they prioritize the welfare of their constituents.

Meanwhile, 111 MPs are expected to be sworn in on October 27, 2025, while the remaining 113 will take their oaths on October 28, 2025 completing the full set of 224 elected legislators.
