Programmes Officer for National Initiative for Civic Education (NICE) Trust in Rumphi, Albert Mtonga, has urged journalists in the district to report responsibly and professionally to help voters make informed choices during the September, 2025 General Elections.

Mtonga made the appeal on Monday during an engagement with the journalists to orient them on electoral reporting ahead of the official launch of the September 2025 General Election campaign.

“Journalists interact with large audiences. It is, therefore, very important for them to be well informed about electoral laws and what is expected of them as they deliver election related stories to their audience,” Mtonga said.

Editor for Rumphi FM Radio, Phalles Nthambo, said the knowledge on electoral laws and ethical reporting will guide her in writing and editing political stories to ensure that the interests of voters are included in stories for them to vote from an informed position.

The topics covered included ethical reporting, general electoral laws, electoral code of conduct and NICE’s civic education roles towards the general election.

At least 13 journalists from various media houses based in the district attended the meeting.
