Kabambe pledges to turn Lower Shire Districts into ‘paradise’

Opposition UTM party president Dalitso Kabambe has made bold promises to transform Chikwawa and Nsanje into what he described as a “paradise,” should he be elected as President of Malawi in the upcoming September general elections.
Kabambe made the remarks during a whistle-stop tour in Chikwawa yesterday. He addressed thousands of supporters and concerned residents, assuring them of a brighter future under his leadership.
“People in the Lower Shire are suffering needlessly due to problems they face every day,” said Kabambe.
“Year after year, floods destroy lives and livelihoods, yet we have abundant water resources that are not being properly utilized.”
Kabambe revealed the Shire River Transformation Project as one of the key initiatives his government would prioritize.
He explained that completing the project would help generate electricity and redirect water to farms in drought-prone areas—thereby improving food security and boosting local economies.
“The Shire River has the power to change lives,” he said.
“It is unacceptable that in the 21st century, people still lack access to sustainable agriculture and energy. We must complete this project to bring real change.”
He also pledged to create job opportunities for the youth in the region, saying unemployment among young people—especially girls and boys fresh out of school—remains a ticking time bomb.
“If I am elected President on September 16, 2025, I will make sure young people are not left behind. I will prioritize job creation, skills development, and entrepreneurship so that our youth become drivers of development, not victims of neglect,” he said.
Kabambe’s message resonated with many in attendance, who expressed hope that his promises would materialize into tangible development.
