Telekom Networks Malawi (TNM) Plc officials are reaffirming their commitment to supporting the country’s vision for inclusive digital transformation and economic growth through reliable connectivity and sustainable solutions.

The remarks by the company’s chief executive officer Michel Hebert in Blantyre on Thursday, came as the telecoms firm is celebrating 30 years of existence.

“We want to continue investing in the networks so as to bring the technology closer to the people. We cover about 85 percent of the people and our plan is to also cover the remaining 15 percent.

“We are looking at technologies that are more cost effective like those powered by solar with simpler communications but still accommodating everyone,” said Hebert.

Despite mentioning forex shortage as one of the challenges that has affected their operations lately, the TNM boss has revealed plans to: “upgrade Mpamba platform which will offer digital financial solution to more customers and allows for more innovative solutions that meet the needs of Malawians.”

Speaking at the event as guest of honor, minister of information and communications technology Shadric Namalomba challenged TNM to invest more so as to increase their reach and perfect their services.

“As the government, we will create a conducive environment for them to thrive and expand their business even beyond Malawi. Malawians want an improved network and gadgets that are modern and affordable,” said Namalomba.

The celebrations marking the company’s three decades of existence were being held under the theme; 30 Years of Growth and Connection.
TNM was the first mobile operator in Malawi, being only the third operator in Africa after South Africa and Egypt.
