Ansah: This is to show how damaging falsehoods and hurtful words can be

Vice President-elect Justice Jane Ansah has declared that she harbours no resentment toward those who criticized or insulted her during the disputed 2019 elections, saying she has chosen forgiveness over bitterness.

Speaking on her experience, Ansah stressed that she was never unsettled by the nationwide protests or the harsh words directed at her, noting that she only carried out her duties within the boundaries of the law.

While she remained firm, Ansah revealed for the first time that her family bore the heaviest brunt of the backlash.

Her mother suffered memory loss and mobility challenges, requiring treatment in the United Kingdom, while her husband, Right Reverend Joseph Addo Ansah, lost much of his eyesight and now struggles to walk independently.

She attributed their health challenges to the emotional toll of social media abuse and public insults, which heightened their blood pressure and worsened their conditions.

“This is to show how damaging falsehoods and hurtful words can be,” she explained, urging Malawians to reflect on the impact of their speech.

Ansah said she sees the ordeal as part of God’s greater plan, adding that alongside President-elect Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, she is determined to lead with humility, faith, and commitment to addressing the country’s pressing challenges.
