UTM running mate Mtumbuka rallies support for new parish in Mzimba

UTM presidential running mate, Matthews Mtumbuka, has called on Catholic faithful at the newly established St. Martin De Porres Parish in Chizani, Mzimba, to take ownership of ensuring that the parish church is fully built and completed.
Speaking during the launch of the parish, Mtumbuka—himself a devoted Catholic—pledged to join hands with the Church committee in mobilising resources to fast-track the construction works.
He emphasized that the new parish would not only serve as a place of worship but also as a hub of unity and development for the surrounding communities.
“As a Catholic and a son of this soil, I will stand side by side with the faithful to fundraise and make sure that this church is completed in record time,” Mtumbuka assured the congregation, drawing applause from the gathering.
The event was presided over by Bishop Yohane Suzgo Nyirenda of Mzuzu Diocese, who expressed gratitude to Mtumbuka for his presence and contribution towards the project.
The Bishop urged parishioners to emulate such generosity and commitment in supporting the growth of the new parish.
In his homily, Bishop Nyirenda further encouraged Catholics to reflect deeply as the country heads to elections, stressing the importance of choosing leaders wisely.
“Come election day, I urge you to vote with conscience—choose wisely and always seek to elect the lesser evil,” he told the faithful.
The launch of St. Martin De Porres Parish marks a significant milestone for the Catholic community in Chizani, with hopes high that the project will soon reach completion through joint efforts of the church, local leaders, and well-wishers.
