Bushiri promises global breakthrough to local films
The local film industry is on the verge of a major breakthrough, thanks to a promise by Prophet Shepherd Bushiri who is working to promote local talent to international filmmakers and distributors.
This follows a meeting the Goshen Trust president and visionaire held with president of the Film Association of Malawi -FAMA Dorothy Kingstone and international partners on Thursday.
“We had the virtual conference with top international filmmakers and distributors including the brilliant minds behind Zee World (India), film distributors from Mauritius (partners with Prime Video and Amazon), and a team from the UK who play a key role in bringing African stories to Netflix.
We were also joined by a respected figure from Nigeria, who will support local distribution across the African continent,” highlighted Bushiri.
The businessman and philanthropist said this is part of his ongoing commitment to finance and uplift the Malawian film industry.
“Our shared vision is clear to promote local talent and export it to the world, achieving what has never been done before in the history of Malawi and, indeed, in Africa by us, Africans, for the world. By the end of our discussions, my office extended an official invitation for these partners to fly to Malawi, not for talks, but for action. It’s time to turn words into reality,” he added.
According to Bushiri, the initiative will open doors for ambitious young people from Malawi and Africa in the film industry by giving them the opportunity to act, collaborate and shine on international platforms.
