Refugee community hails Mutharika’s election victory

The Refugee Community in Malawi has extended congratulations to President-elect Professor Peter Mutharika and his running mate, Justice Dr. Jane Ansah, on their triumph in the 16 September general elections.

In a statement, the community also applauded Malawians for upholding democratic values by exercising their sovereign will through what it described as free, fair, and credible elections.

“We look forward to working with the new administration in fostering peace, stability, and shared prosperity for all who live in this beautiful country,” the statement reads in part.

The group, however, urged the incoming government to prioritize addressing economic challenges, particularly the rising cost of living, which it said continues to burden many households.

Mutharika secured the presidency with 56 percent of the vote and is expected to be sworn in within seven days of the Malawi Electoral Commission announcing the official results.
