Sahel States withdraw from International Criminal Court

The Alliance of Sahel States, comprising Burkina Faso, Niger, and Mali, has announced its immediate withdrawal from the International Criminal Court (ICC).
In a joint statement, the three military-led West African nations accused the court of serving as an instrument of “neo-colonialist repression” and declared plans to establish their own indigenous mechanisms to strengthen peace and justice.
They further argued that the ICC has failed to effectively handle and prosecute war crimes.
The move marks the latest step by the junta to distance their countries from Western influence and institutions.
