Atupele Muluzi unveils UDF manifesto

United Democratic Front (UDF) president Atupele Muluzi has launched his party’s manifesto with a pledge to put “money in people’s pockets” and drive Malawi towards economic recovery through business, mining, energy, and education reforms, among others.
Speaking during the launch at Nyambadwe Ground in Blantyre’s Ndirande township, Muluzi emphasized that his leadership will prioritize business growth, noting that a thriving private sector is the backbone of the country’s economy.
“Our people should have money in their pockets. That is what true development means. When business grows, the nation grows,” said Muluzi.
On mining, the UDF leader revealed that he has already signed an agreement with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on a critical minerals fund, which he believes will open new opportunities for Malawi’s economy.
“I have signed an agreement with the UAE on the critical minerals fund. This will grow our economy. And let me assure you, we have many countries that are ready to support us,” he said.
Muluzi further stressed that energy will remain a key priority in his administration, highlighting that reliable power supply is necessary to boost industry and attract investors.
“Remember, we are pushing for a business-first agenda so that the nation grows economically. Innovate Malawi is our manifesto,” he told the gathering.
Turning to education, Muluzi said Malawi can achieve global standards if resources are allocated efficiently.
“It is possible to have the best education system in the world. We just need money. If you vote for UDF, we will realize that,” he said.
In a swipe at his political rivals, Muluzi positioned himself as a clean leader with decades of experience.
“I am not corrupt. I don’t have bail in my pocket unlike other politicians. I have been in politics for over 20 years and I know what leadership takes,” he declared.
He wrapped up his speech with a call for unity and careful voting, warning Malawians of the consequences of poor leadership choices.
“Let’s change Malawi together. If you vote anyhow, expect the worst economic crisis. The UDF offers a clear path for progress,” Muluzi said.
