UTM presidential running mate and aspiring Member of Parliament for Rumphi Central, Engineer Matthews Mtumbuka, stole the spotlight at the constituency debate, leaving the audience impressed as he laid out his manifesto for local development.

Organized by NICE Public Trust, the debate brought together candidates to present their plans to the electorate ahead of the upcoming elections.

Mtumbuka used the platform to highlight his extensive experience in the private sector and as an engineer, emphasizing his hands-on approach to community development.

He pointed to several projects already implemented under his guidance, including graveling of constituency roads, the Bolehale water drilling initiative, school quiz competitions, and close collaboration with the Area Development Committee (ADC) to drive community-focused projects.

On health, Mtumbuka promised to strengthen local healthcare by partnering Rumphi hospitals with facilities in Scotland, aiming to improve service delivery and accessibility for residents of Rumphi Central.

Other candidates at the debate included Chidumba Mkandawire (MCP), Licy Gondwe (Independent), Luso Mapesi Gondwe (Independent), Moya Walita (Independent), and Manvuto Nkhwazi, whose campaign received little attention during the event.

The debate provided a platform for voters to engage with candidates, scrutinize their manifestos, and make informed decisions as Rumphi Central heads to the polls
