Mtumbuka emerges as a most popular running mate
Mathews Mtumbuka, running mate to UTM presidential candidate Dalitso Kabambe, has been rated the most popular vice-presidential pick in a viral Facebook poll conducted by comedian and influencer Felistus Ngwira, popularly known as Nya-Uyu.
The informal survey asked Malawians to name the best running mate among those announced so far.
According to the results, Mtumbuka secured 55% of the votes, ahead of Vitumbiko Mumba of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), who garnered 45%.
Many respondents praised Mtumbuka for his integrity, professionalism, and academic credentials.
A Rhodes Scholar, he holds a PhD in Engineering from the University of Oxford and has held senior roles at Shell, Airtel Africa, and the UbuntuNet Alliance.
Analysts say his background in technology and infrastructure positions him as a valuable asset to the UTM ticket ahead of Malawi’s 16 September general elections.
