TNM Super League rookies Chitipa United on Sunday registered their first win when they beat Azam Tigers 3-2 at Mzuzu Stadium.
However, despite the win, they remain at the bottom of the 15-team table on an inferior goal difference to 15th placed Blantyre United.
Chitipa had gone seven games without a win before they finally got the victory which has taken their tally to four points. They lost six games and drew once.
Chitipa coach Kondwani Mwalweni said it has helped them to build their confidence ahead of their next outing.
“The win will boost our confidence. We are very excited with the result,” he said.
But as for Tigers, the defeat has pulled them two steps down from the driving seat as they have been displaced by joint leaders Red Lions and Be Forward Wanderers on goal difference. All the three teams are tied on 12 points but Lions and Wanderers have six as their goal difference, one ahead of Tigers.
Chitipa scored through Alick Phiri, Wacheta Mwenifumbo and Christopher Mtambo while Stain Pendame got a brace for Tigers.
