ActionAid to financially support over a thousand households

About 1,050 households from Chiradzulu, Phalombe, and Nsanje are expected to benefit from ActionAid’s lean season cash transfer program worth 105 million Kwacha.

ActionAid Malawi Executive Director Yandula Chipeta says each household will receive a one-time payment of K100,000.

She stated that the purpose of the program is to enable food-insecure households to purchase food and other necessities.

“We felt that cash transfer is very dignified, as it gives households options on what they would want to buy,” she added.

Director of Preparedness and Response at the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (Dodma), Moses Chiphepo, has urged beneficiaries to use the support as intended, emphasizing its role in reducing food insecurity.

Speaking to Capital FM, District Commissioner for Chiradzulu, Francis Matewere, said that the support is a commendable effort to uplift the livelihoods of people in Chiradzulu, who are affected by the El Niño-induced dry spell that led to poor harvests.
