National Bank of Malawi plc has awarded eight of its employees for exceptional performance in 2024 — a gesture the bank believes is key to the institution’s continued success.

According to the bank’s Chief Executive Officer, Harold Jiya, who was speaking during the 2024 Excellence Awards held on Saturday night in Lilongwe, the awards are meant to celebrate staff members who have served clients exceptionally.

“This is very significant because it is our staff that delivers so that we can be successful. We believe that when you celebrate success, you engrave a winning culture in people’s minds. We want our staff to be our heroes — those who go beyond the ordinary to serve our customers,” said Jiya.

He added that, in future, the initiative will be broadened to recognize more employees.

Chairperson of the Awards Committee, William Kaunda, said the list of winners comes from each unit of the bank, which proposes a winner for every quarter of the year. He said that in 2024, they received over 100 nominations, from which 15 were selected as winners, including those from service centres and divisions.

One of the awardees, Nicolas Msayiwa, who is the Client Coverage Manager at NBM plc, described the recognition as great motivation that encourages staff to continue providing exceptional service to customers.

“It’s about being exceptional — being the best among many so that you stand out. Teamwork also helps; you cannot win on your own without support from others. And above all, I owe it to God,” said Msayiwa.

Eight employees won the Platinum Awards and have been rewarded with a seven-day, all-expenses-paid vacation to Dubai, along with unspecified pocket money.

The awards featured various categories, including Best Service Centres, Best Branch, and Best Division.
