The Southern Region Chess League (SRCL) is set to host the Under-16 Youth Chess Tournament in Blantyre this Saturday.
According to SRCL Publicity Secretary Dumisani Kadzombe, registration for the regional youth chess competition is currently underway.
He said the league is excited to organize the event, adding that it will be the biggest Under-16 tournament ever hosted in the region.
“We are excited to host the biggest Under-16 chess tournament ever held in the region this Saturday,” Kadzombe said.
The tournament is sponsored by Sauti and Company Law Consultants. Kadzombe expressed gratitude to the sponsors and appealed to other organizations to follow suit.
“We are grateful to our sponsor, Sauti and Company Law Consultants, for their support, and we appeal to the corporate world to emulate this good gesture,” he said.
Meanwhile, Kadzombe called on parents and guardians to register players ahead of the event, noting that registration closes at 6 p.m. on the eve of the competition.
“All wishing to register their children should do so before registration closes,” he emphasized.
SRCL officials are expecting a turnout of more than 30 budding players, who will compete in the Southern Region showpiece — a testament to the league’s commitment to developing the sport among young players.
