Nkando: It feels like all our hard work and ideas have been valued

The Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) has officially registered the MUBAS Writers’ Club, an initiative aimed at nurturing young writers, promoting a reading culture, and encouraging freedom of expression among students.

According to a memorandum signed by the Director of Student Affairs, Gertrude Sitolo, the club has met all the requirements for registration.

Sitolo expressed optimism that the club will enrich campus life by promoting a reading and writing culture while also offering students a space for social interaction and the exchange of ideas.

Reacting to the development, Chairlady of the MUBAS Writers’ Club, Comfort Nkando, said the official recognition is a proud and motivating milestone.

“Getting official recognition feels like all our hard work and ideas have been valued. It’s a proud moment for all of us, and it motivates us to do even more for students who love writing,” she said.

Nkando explained that the club’s mission is to inspire a love for reading and writing among students by providing a safe and creative space for young writers to share their work, improve their craft, and express their ideas freely.

She further revealed that the club plans to host writing workshops, mentorship sessions, and literary discussions, as well as publish members’ works online and in print.

The Writers’ Club also intends to collaborate with other literary groups and engage in community outreach programs to make writing and the arts more accessible to both students and the public.
