Kaonga to spend K1bn for 50 students’ education
Kaonga: In August, these students will be inaugurated at Chilumba where I will join them to celebrate this new chapter
People’s Party vice president Duncan Kaonga has pledged to enrol 50 students at Maranatha Academy starting in September, covering all their academic needs.
The move will see the Karonga South Constituency shadow Member of Parliament (MP) spending about K1 billion on the students from the Chilumba area in the district.
It all started when the philanthropist cleared K460,000 outstanding balance for two needy students at Chilumba Secondary School.
“I have pledged to enrol these students, along with 48 others from Chilumba, at Maranatha Academy starting in September. This brings the total number of students I will support at the academy to 50, thus 25 girls and 25 boys. In August, these students will be inaugurated at Chilumba, where I will join them to celebrate this new chapter,” said Kaonga.
Reacting to the development, Group Village Headman Kamtenthenga has hailed the gesture by Kaonga saying this will greatly transform the future of Chilumba.
“Words alone cannot say it. We are very grateful for this gesture, and we believe the future looks promising in our area. We will have boys and girls who are highly educated. Everyone should emulate this initiative. We are very thankful,” highlighted the local leader.
