Mtumbuka Urges Catholic Men to Venture into Business for Economic Independence

“No one becomes rich overnight unless you are a thief.”

Dr. Matthews Mtumbuka, a devout Catholic and respected figure in the faith community, has challenged Catholic men to embrace entrepreneurship as a pathway to economic freedom.

Speaking on Thursday at Chisitu Catholic Parish in Mulanje during the annual conference of the Catholic Men’s Association under the Archdiocese of Blantyre, Dr. Mtumbuka stressed the importance of financial self-reliance among men of faith.

“Many men fail to progress because they are ashamed to start small.

“Let me be clear—no one becomes rich overnight unless you are a thief. Honest business takes time and hard work,” he said.

Dr. Mtumbuka urged the men to shed societal expectations and focus on building a sustainable livelihood through patience and resilience.

“When you start a business, do not expect instant results,” he advised.

He further added: “Business can take up to seven years before it becomes stable and begins to produce meaningful profits. It takes perseverance and faith.”

The conference drew Catholic men from parishes across the Archdiocese of Blantyre, creating a vibrant space for spiritual reflection and economic empowerment.

Also present at the event were notable political figures, including Dr. Patricia Kaliati and Dr. Kondwani Nankhumwa, who came to show their support and solidarity with the association’s vision.

The annual conference continues to serve as a crucial platform for spiritual growth, networking, and the promotion of practical solutions to everyday challenges faced by Catholic men.
