Standard Bank to gunner support for athletes

Madinga at a Press Briefing

Standard Bank of Malawi has announced that proceeds of this year’s Be More race, scheduled for 19th July, will be donated to athletics to revive the sport.

Announcing the news on Thursday in Lilongwe, Standard Bank of Malawi’s Chief Executive, Phillip Madinga, says this is a way of helping the development of young Malawian athletes to reach their potential.

He has since appealed to members of the public to buy the tickets and take part in the race.

“This year, we would like to pay homage to the sport that drives our event – Athletics! We are donating all funds raised to Athletics Malawi to support the purchase of equipment and training for the professional athletes in the country,” Madinga said.

President of Athletics Association of Malawi, Kondwani Chamwala, expressed excitement, imploring Malawian athletes to embrace the opportunity.

“We are happy we have found a friend in Standard Bank. We are facing a lot of challenges, including a lack of training materials, nutritious meals for the athletes, among other things.” Said Chamwala.

Be More Race is an annual athletics day initiated by Standard Bank of Malawi, where participants contribute money through the purchase of tickets, and the proceeds are channeled to a particular activity.
