Bushiri questions ‘order’ to sell his R50m jet

Bushiri in his private jet
Prophet Shepherd Bushiri is questioning an announcement by South Africa’s National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to sell his private jet.
On Thursday last week, the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria nodded to the NPA’s application to sell Bushiri’s luxury jet, The Bombardier Challenger 604, worth R50 million (K4.4 billion), arguing that proceeds should support asset recovery efforts linked to the self-styled prophet’s alleged financial crimes.
“I am commenting on this matter because it was dismissed in Malawi courts — as the court already made its ruling. The NPA’s justification for this action is to recover funds allegedly lost due to crimes I committed, which they claim will be used to compensate victims.
“However, I must remind the NPA and the public that the same allegations brought before the Malawi courts were dismissed as mere accusations and the case was removed from the court list. It is perplexing that the NPA would proceed with selling my private jet over charges that have already been dismissed by a competent court,” questions Bushiri.
The philanthropists has since described the sale of his private jet as “unjust” and a clear case of “persecution” adding that: “I hope that a thorough review of this matter will be conducted and justice will be served.”
The South African government wants Malawi to extradite Bushiri and his wife, Mary, to answer charges.
