Police say mysterious Metallic object taken from scene

As the wait continues to identify a mysterious metallic object that fell from the sky in Malimbalimba, in the area of Paramount Chief Kyungu in Karonga, police say it appears someone removed the object from the scene and took it home.

Officer-in-Charge for Karonga Police, Kelvin Mulezo, said officers had taken photographs of the object, but it no longer looks the same as it did when first discovered.

“Yes, it is not in the state we found it yesterday. After the incident was reported to police, we rushed to the scene and took photographs. Later, when we left, it appears someone dug it out from the ground and took it home or elsewhere,” said Mulezo.

He added that the person suspected of taking the object is known, and investigations are underway. “We have not yet caught up with him to ask a few questions.”

Mulezo also stated that no police officer was left to guard the scene after it was cordoned off, and he warned the public about the dangers of tampering with unknown objects.

He further advised residents to remain calm, as experts from Police Headquarters are en route to examine the object and determine how it should be safely disposed of, noting the real possibility that it could be dangerous.
