Man killed for allegedly stealing pumpkins in Dowa

A man in Dowa has died after being beaten by villagers for allegedly being caught stealing pumpkins from a maize garden.

Dowa Police Public Relations Officer Alice Sitima has identified the deceased as 23-year-old Chisomo Ndolosi, who was attacked by villagers at Sola, Traditional Authority Chiwere on 2nd April and died the following day.

“His brother Mike Said reported that when he was coming back from a nearby village where he went to perform some piece work, he discovered Chisomo at around 4 pm severely beaten.

“The matter was then reported to the Chezi police unit, who found Chisomo at the scene but with severe head injuries. He was taken to Dowa district hospital where he died while receiving treatment,” she said.

Sitima said the postmortem conducted at the hospital revealed that death was caused by intracranial hemorrhage resulting from the injuries sustained during the attack.

It was later discovered that the deceased had been attacked by some people who allegedly caught him stealing pumpkins from a maize field.

Currently, police are searching for people suspected to be involved in the attack to answer murder charges.
