DPP denies perpetrating violence

Namalomba: We are victims
The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has denied allegations of being perpetrators of violence, instead claiming they’re the victims.
This comes after a call was made in parliament for political parties involved in violence to come together and discuss how to end it.
According to DPP spokesperson Shadreck Namalomba, the party has faced the most politically motivated violence, citing the Mbowe incident in Lilongwe as an example.
“We, as the Democratic Progressive Party, are victims. We are not proponents of violence. We are victims. Even from some time back, our people were hacked in Mponera, at Mbowe, even when we wanted to conduct stage demonstrations in Lilongwe, we were beaten there.
We are not the proponents, so we continue to condemn violence and sensitize our members. We do not want them to retaliate, even in a situation of extreme provocation,” Namalomba said.
Although Namalomba acknowledged that some DPP supporters have engaged in violent behavior, he pledged to raise awareness to stop such actions.
This comes after the party condemned recent attacks, including the vandalization of a Malawi Congress Party-MCP vehicle in Machinga.
