Gangata arrested over alleged fake MSCE certificate

Gangata, arrested over fake MSCE

Police have confirmed the arrest of Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Central Region Vice President Alfred Gangata for allegedly obtaining a Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) certificate unlawfully.

National Police Spokesperson Peter Kalaya stated that investigations revealed Gangata is using a 2018 MSCE certificate, which he claims to have obtained from Chitowe Community Day Secondary School (CDSS) in Dedza.

However, Kalaya said their findings indicate that Gangata was never a student at Chitowe CDSS and did not sit for exams there as an external candidate.

“This evidence suggests that the certificate is either fake or was obtained illegally, which is a crime under Section 319 of the Penal Code,” Kalaya said.

Gangata reportedly turned himself in at the National Police Headquarters in Lilongwe after learning about the investigation, at which point he was arrested.
