LIVE Kalindo joins Zomba demos
The protests in Zomba over the rising cost of commodities have received a boost as human rights activist Bon Kalindo joins the demonstrators.
Kalindo, addressing the crowd, highlighted that the economic hardships are affecting not just vendors but also students at the University of Malawi (UNIMA), who are struggling with the high cost of living .
The demonstration, which started at Zomba Community Ground, is making its way to the district commissioner’s office, passing through key locations such as Namiwawa, Zomba Zero, and the M1 road.
Security forces remain on high alert as protesters, chanting slogans and carrying placards, demand urgent government intervention. Shops in Zomba town remain closed.
They are calling on authorities to introduce measures to stabilize prices and ease the financial strain on ordinary Malawians. Meanwhile, there has been no official government response to the ongoing demonstrations.
