Chakwera commends churches for promoting unity, moral values

Chakwera: Churches are instrumental in ensuring that society upholds good morals.

President Lazarus Chakwera has applauded churches for their role in fostering unity, peace, and social cohesion in Malawi through messages of righteousness, uprightness, and good moral values.

Speaking on Sunday at Chisomo Baptist Church in Mzuzu, where he joined the congregation, Chakwera emphasized the critical role churches play in shaping society’s moral fabric while the government focuses on improving citizens’ livelihoods.

“Churches are instrumental in ensuring that society upholds good morals. Government also acknowledges their contribution to the national development agenda, particularly in providing essential social services such as health and education,” he said.

During the service, Reverend Humphry Chapulapula urged congregants to embrace righteousness and live according to God’s will.

“A righteous man listens to God and fears Him. Live as children of light and do what pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness,” he preached.

He further highlighted that a person devoted to God carries a distinct moral compass, influencing their thoughts, actions, financial decisions, relationships, and overall conduct.

As part of his support for the church, Chakwera contributed K2 million towards its building project.
