Stakeholders push for early action protocols to mitigate disaster impact

Zawanda: these are the actions we take between receiving a forecast of a hazard before it occurs
Stakeholders in Disaster Risk Management (DRM) are optimistic that implementing early action protocols can significantly reduce loss of lives and property during disasters.
DRM believes the concept will make a meaningful impact by leveraging the critical window of opportunity between early warnings and the actual disaster.
Principal Disaster Preparedness Officer Edwin Zawanda emphasized the urgent need for such initiatives, citing the increasing devastation caused by disasters.
According to Zawanda, development of early action protocols will better equip communities to respond, ultimately reducing loss of lives and property.
“its part of the disaster risk management cycle, especially which is also embedded in preparedness and the anticipatory actions refer to actions.
These are the actions we take between receiving a forecast of a hazard and before it occurs . So the action between the forecast and the disaster itself that we take are what we call anticipatory action. So it’s a paradigm shift from the normal disaster preparedness and the response” Zawanda explains.
