Ministry of Gender calls for equal access to leadership

Daudi: The main objective of the 2025 commemoration is to celebrate the achievements of women and girls while advocating for their rights, equality, and economic empowerment
Gender authorities are emphasizing the importance of creating a fair and inclusive society where all women and girls have equal access to leadership and decision-making spaces.
This remark comes ahead of this year’s International Women’s Day, which will be commemorated under the theme “All Women and Girls: Rights, Equality, and Empowerment.”
Speaking during a press briefing in Lilongwe, Deputy Minister of Gender Halima Daudi said Malawi will join the international community in commemorating International Women’s Day on 8th March 2025 as part of efforts to promote women’s rights and gender equality in the country.
“The main objective of the 2025 commemoration is to celebrate the achievements of women and girls while advocating for their rights, equality, and economic empowerment,” said Daudi.
She added that this year’s event will also mobilize stakeholders at all levels to take transformative actions that accelerate progress toward gender equality and sustainable development in Malawi.
The celebration will include various activities, such as a visit to the Kamuzu Central Hospital Maternity Ward in Lilongwe on 5th March 2025 to support women with gifts.
Additionally, a breakfast meeting, a business expo, and a small and medium entrepreneurs’ session will take place at Amaryllis Hotel in Blantyre on 7th March 2025 as a way of mentoring women in business.
