Religious leaders seek divine guidance for Malawi’s future

Urged tobe resilient, Mutharika

A group of 71 clerics from the CCAP Blantyre Synod gathered at Page House in Mangochi on Friday to hold prayers for former President Peter Mutharika, citing a need for divine intervention in the country’s leadership.

The event came just two weeks after Mutharika’s wife, former First Lady Gertrude Mutharika, hosted a similar gathering of women from different Christian denominations.

In his address, Chikondi Achinangolo Wyson Banda explained that the prayers were aimed at seeking God’s guidance for Mutharika’s health and wisdom while also reflecting on the country’s current challenges.

“Malawi is going through difficult times, and as men of God, we believe that leadership is ordained by Him. We are here to pray that if it is His will, He may use Mutharika to help lead Malawians out of their struggles,” Banda said.

He highlighted the worsening economic hardships, unemployment, and the high cost of living as issues of concern, calling for divine intervention to bring relief to Malawians.

Former Blantyre Synod Secretary General, Reverend Alex Maulana, urged Mutharika to stay resilient in the face of political uncertainty, emphasizing that any effort to bring change would require strength and determination.

“The journey ahead is not easy—it is full of challenges and obstacles. But with God’s guidance, we believe that leaders can emerge to address the difficulties Malawians are facing,” Maulana said.

On his part, Mutharika welcomed the religious leaders and acknowledged their concerns, urging them to use their voices to speak against social injustices.

“Religious leaders play a vital role in our society. Malawi is in a difficult state, and it is important for those with influence to stand up and speak out against the challenges affecting the people,” he said.
