MNCS donates medical equipment to Mdeka Health Centre

Symbolic handover of the equipment
The Malawi National Council of Sports has donated critical medical equipment worth MK5 million to Mdeka Health Centre in Blantyre.
The council donated in a bid to improve healthcare access for over 33,000 members of the community residing around the healthcare facility on the outskirts of the commercial capital city.
The donation, made using proceeds from the 2024 Blantyre 42.195 KM Race, includes a refrigerator, a wheelchair and a stretcher, and a fan, items identified as crucial for the facility’s service delivery.
MNCS Director of Human Resources and Administration, Lameck Gomani, made the official hand-over of the items at Mdeka Health Centre where he emphasized the council’s commitment to serving the public through Corporate Social Responsibility.
Gomani said: “The connection between good health and sports is undeniable, making our donation a vital investment in the community. After assessing various healthcare centers around Blantyre.
Mdeka seemed fit for the donation after we were told of some of their shortfalls. The items we have donated here will help solve some of the challenges that were there though we still need to do more.”
Aleck Asima, the Blantyre District Health Office Clinical Coordinator, acknowledged the timely contribution by the donors saying it will fill significant gaps in the facility’s resources.
“We encourage other organizations and well-wishers to assist in any way they can because such contributions align with our national health strategy which aims to improve the availability and accessibility of healthcare services.
We do not want patients to be turned away due to a lack of equipment,” said Asima.
Some community members were present at the handover event and expressed gratitude over the MNCS’s commitment to addressing their needs.
The Blantyre 42.195 km race took place on 7 September 2024 in the city and part of the proceeds have been channeled to the donation.
