The Civil Society Organizations (CSO) Network in Chiradzulu district has expressed dissatisfaction with the level of engagement between the district council and local communities in project implementation.
The network’s Secretary General, Max Mtiwa, told Capital FM today after meeting officials from Governance to Enable Service Delivery (GESD).
“We have realized that there is only partial involvement of citizens, which we are not happy with. The level of engagement in various development projects across the district needs improvement,” he said.
Mtiwa added that they plan to engage district officials to map out a way forward on how to enhance citizen participation in upcoming developments.
Reacting to the concerns, the district’s Director of Planning and Development, who is also the council’s spokesperson, Henderson Kaumi, stated that citizen engagement is taking place.
However, he acknowledged that in some projects, community involvement has been limited and assured that full participation will be prioritized moving forward.
