PCL press on for nature

Mangani: This is about more than just planting trees
Press Corporation plc (PCL) has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability by launching a large-scale tree-planting dubbed “Press for Nature” initiative in Chikwawa District.
Held at Group Village Headman Njereza, TA Kasisi Headquarters, the event brought together PCL employees, group companies, local communities, and key stakeholders, including the Department of Forestry and traditional leaders.
The initiative saw the planting of 2,000 indigenous and fruit tree seedlings, marking the start of a plan to plant 20,000 trees over two months under the “Press for Nature” program.
PCL Chief Executive Officer Ronald Mangani emphasized the initiative’s significance.
“This is about more than just planting trees—it’s about securing the future of our communities and ecosystems,” he said.
Several PCL group companies, including Ethanol Company Limited, Limbe Leaf Tobacco Company Limited, and Macsteel Malawi Limited, provided resources and manpower to support the effort.
Beyond tree planting, “Press for Nature” includes a two-year sustainability program with a reward system recognizing schools and communities across 17 zones for nurturing trees to maturity.
Chikwawa District Forestry Officer, Hector Nkawihe praised the initiative for contributing to Malawi’s reforestation goals.
“The efforts by Press Corporation plc and its group companies contribute significantly to Malawi’s reforestation goals. Initiatives like this enhance our environmental resilience and inspire a culture of sustainability among communities,” said Nkawihe
Traditional Authority Kasisi expressed gratitude for the effort’s potential to restore vegetation and reduce flood impacts.
“This collaboration shows how much we can achieve when communities and corporations work hand in hand,” he said.
