The government has conceded that financial constraints are hampering the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation flamework whose implementation started in January last year and runs up to 2028.
Secretary to the President and Cabinet Coleen Zammba made the revelations in Lilongwe during the joint steering committee meeting between the government of Malawi and the United Nations, which was aimed at tracking progress one year down the line.
The meeting was aimed at assessing progress in the implementation of the 2024-2028 CooperationFramework and providing solutions to key bottlenecks as well as serving as a platform to review and endorse the 2024 Annual Performance Results while identifying strategic areas for strengthening collaborationand joint accountability.
However, Zamba expressed optimism that with the aid of other international partners, Malawi will meaningfully contribute to the achievement of the framework which is critical to the attainment of the Malawi 2063 blueprint.

‘’We are working on various ways and means through which we believe we will be able to meaningfully contribute towards the framework and ensure together with our UN partners, we achieve the new Sustainable Development Goals,’’ said Zamba.
Meanwhile, United Nations Resident Coordinator Rebbeca Ada Dontoh has hailed Malawi’s contribution to the framework despite numerous social and economic challenges.
‘’We have been having honest and difficult discussions between ourselves and the Malawi government on the generation of the resources domestically which the government has committed to and is trying to head towards that direction,’’ said Dontoh.

In January 2024, the United Nations (UN) in Malawi, in partnership with the Government of Malawi, commenced the implementation of the new UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for the years 2024 to 2028.
The Cooperation Framework, signed by the Government and 23 (UN) agencies, outlines the strategic vision of the UN in Malawi, aligning with national development goals as articulated in Vision 2063.
