Chisale (with a Bible) found with cases to answer

The Chief Resident Magistrate Court in Lilongwe has ruled that Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) director of youth, Paulos Norman Chisale has a case to answer on three counts in the Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) trial.

High Court Judge Madalitso Chimwaza, sitting as Chief Resident Magistrate, stated that the evidence presented by six state witnesses was sufficient to proceed with the case.

The charges against Chisale include Personation of a person named in a certificate, Presenting false information to a person employed in Public Service, and Intimidation.

Chisale is accused of stealing a JCE certificate belonging to Pythius Hiwa and using it to secure recruitment into the Malawi Defense Force (MDF) in 1996. He is also alleged to have intimidated Hiwa.

Director of Public Prosecutions Masauko Chankakala described the court’s decision as a step toward winning the case.

“We presented the evidence, and the court is convinced that the accused person should explain himself. He has been found with a case to answer on all three counts we profiled against him,” said Chankakala.

Defense lawyer Gilbert Khonyongwa stated that they would discuss the next steps.

Chisale retains the right to remain silent, in which case the court will proceed with delivering its judgment.
