Govt excited over mineral extraction in Kasiya

Expectations are high that the discovery and exploration of valuable minerals in Kasiya will unlock the nation’s potential for sustainable growth and community development.
These remarks follow ongoing exploration activities aimed at extracting rutile from the area.
Speaking during a visit to Sovereign Services Limited, Principal Mining Engineer in the Ministry of Mining, Regina Mayeso Kakwera, emphasized that the work being done in Kasiya demonstrates how mining can transform the country if proper investments are made.
“The purpose of bringing exploration companies into the country is to identify and extract minerals, enabling the nation to generate profits in line with the government’s Agriculture, Tourism, and Mining (ATM) strategy,” Kakwera explained.
Sovereign Services Limited Project Geologist Reidwel Nyirenda reported significant progress in exploration efforts, revealing that the team had excavated to a depth of 20 meters to assess the quantity of rutile and graphite present in the soil.
“We consider this a success, not only because we identified minerals but also because we successfully tested the mining methods we plan to use in Kasiya. Both excavation and hydro-mining have proven effective for us,” said Nyirenda.
Nyirenda further noted that the company is now focused on refining its mining techniques as part of its preparations for the commencement of full-scale mining activities.
Sovereign Services Limited is expected to begin mining operations in Kasiya within the next two to five years, following the completion of exploration works.
