DoDMA urges committees to strengthen disaster response efforts

Deputy Director for Disaster Risk Management Resilience, Hastings Mwanjoka, has called on Area and District Risk Management Committees to take a proactive role in assisting people during flood disasters.

Mwanjoka appealed for the handover of relief items to individuals responsible for helping flood-affected communities at Kapasule Evacuation Center in Traditional Authority Katunga in Chikwawa District.

Some of the donated items include gloves, torches, rain suits, and first aid kits to enhance their preparedness.

District Risk Management Officer for Chikwawa district, Charity Macheka, commended DoDMA for the timely intervention, noting that the support addresses challenges the district faces annually.

“Chikwawa is prone to floods, and every year we face significant challenges. These items will greatly help the district improve its disaster response,” said Macheka.

Additionally, the Chairperson for the Area Risk Management Committee, Cosmas Kholowa, expressed gratitude for the support, emphasizing that the equipment will make their disaster response efforts more efficient.

“As community and committee members, we are committed to taking good care of the items received from DoDMA to ensure they are used effectively during disasters,” said Kholowa.

DoDMA has distributed these items across various districts to enhance disaster preparedness and response capabilities nationwide.
