Apostle Kawinga urges irrigation farming to combat hunger in Malawi

Kawinga (L): The hunger situation is dire.
Salvation for All Ministries International leader, Apostle Clifford Kawinga, has urged Malawians to embrace irrigation farming as a sustainable solution to the country’s persistent hunger crisis.
Speaking today at Ligowe Primary School in Neno District during a maize donation event that benefited over 2,000 households, Kawinga underscored the importance of adopting innovative agricultural practices to address food insecurity and reduce dependence on rain-fed farming.

“The hunger situation is dire across the country,” said Kawinga.
“However, this is a challenge we can overcome if we empower communities to adopt irrigation farming and other agricultural innovations. It is time we invest in sustainable solutions to ensure year-round food security.”
The maize donation is part of an ongoing initiative by Salvation International for All Ministries, which combines material assistance with spiritual outreach.
During the event, Kawinga ministered the Word of God and prayed for the gathered congregants.
Kawinga, who is also a prominent entrepreneur and owner of Creck Hardware and General Suppliers, CK Storage, and Creck Sporting Club, emphasized the need for a holistic approach to community development.
“Our ministry is not just about preaching the Word of God but also about transforming lives through practical assistance,” he said.
“By empowering communities spiritually and materially, we can help them rise above their challenges and create lasting change.”
He further called on the government, non-governmental organizations, and the clergy to play an active role in addressing the hunger crisis.
“We shall continue this mission until Christ comes. Our journey so far has been successful and has also allowed us to understand people’s needs better,” he said.

“The government must intervene. NGOs must intervene. Even the clergy should join us in this effort.”
Meanwhile, Senior Chief Mlauli commended the ministry for its support, noting that the donation would bring much-needed relief to his subjects.
The chief also echoed Kawinga’s call for collective efforts to tackle the crisis, urging various stakeholders to prioritize sustainable solutions.
