Fears over U.S. LGBTQI aid to Malawi following Trump’s policies

Some human rights organizations in Malawi have expressed fears that U.S. aid supporting LGBTQI rights could be disrupted following the new U.S. President Donald Trump’s stance against the practice.

Trump has stated that the United States will only recognize relationships and marriages between men and women, emphasizing that the country acknowledges only men and women in such unions.

However, Michael Kayiyatsa, the Executive Director of the Centre for Human Rights and Rehabilitation (CHRR), said this decision could undermine efforts to protect LGBTQI rights in Malawi, as some of the funding for these initiatives comes from the U.S.

Meanwhile, Godfrey Kangaude, the Director of Nyale Institute, has criticized Trump’s policies, describing them as discriminatory.
