The Ministry of Finance is holding consultations in Mzuzu today to gather input from the public on priorities for the upcoming national budget.

This marks the second session in a series of engagements aimed at ensuring the budget reflects the needs and aspirations of Malawians.

The event has attracted participants from various sectors, including academic institutions, civil society organizations, religious leaders, and local government representatives.

Among those contributing are the Church and Society arm of the CCAP Livingstonia Synod, Mzuzu University, Nyika Institute, and the Malawi Local Government Association, all of whom are providing insights on key economic and developmental priorities.

Finance Minister Simplex Chithyola Banda emphasized the importance of public consultations in shaping the national budget.

He stated that the ministry values citizens’ contributions as they help create an economic framework that benefits all Malawians.

Banda expressed optimism about the country’s economic prospects, projecting a 4 percent growth in the national economy this year.

He noted that the upcoming budget will prioritize increasing domestic revenue while reducing the national debt.

Church and Society Executive Director Macbowman Mulagha, speaking at the event, stressed the need for equitable distribution of development projects.

He praised the infrastructure development seen in Lilongwe, particularly road projects, but called for similar efforts in Mzuzu and other regions to ensure balanced national growth.
