Land authorities hope for improved revenue collection

Chilonga: We expect to improve efficiency and effectiveness

Ministry of Lands officials are hopeful that the implementation of the Increased Land Productivity Project will improve revenue collections from land parcels leased out by the government.

Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Lands, Davie Chilonga, made the remarks during the signing of an agreement for the project under the Millennium Challenge Account – Malawi II.

The agreement is between the Ministry of Lands and the Ministry of Local Government, Unity, and Culture.

The five-year project, funded to the tune of 44.1 million US dollars by the Millennium Challenge Account – Malawi II, will commence on January 20 this year.

Chilonga explained that they expect to improve efficiency and effectiveness in serving Malawians better.

On his part, Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government, Unity, and Culture, Richard Hara, said the initiative will enhance revenue as cities digitalize their property rates, making it easier to locate and identify properties.

According to Hara, through digitalized information, they will be able to identify properties and link them to payments, thereby eradicating problems associated with manual processes, such as skipping properties.
