Namalomba: The arrests are politically motivated

The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has condemned the recent arrests targeting some of its leaders, describing them as acts of intimidation by the government.

The remarks follow the arrest of former Finance Minister Joseph Mwanamvekha and three others over financial issues involving the Greenbelt Authority.

The other three are former MERA Chief Executive Officer Collins Magalasi, former Secretary to the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) Lloyd Muhara, former Secretary to the Treasury Cliff Chiunda, and Blantyre South East legislature, Sameer Suleman.

Reacting to the arrests, DPP spokesperson Shadreck Namalomba questioned the motives behind them, arguing that the government should focus on resolving the economic challenges Malawians are facing.

“It is evident that Chakwera has failed in all aspects. The people are suffering from poverty, hunger, and the rising cost of necessities. Their leaders prioritize their interests through nepotism and fraud,” Namalomba stated.

Namalomba further alleged that the arrests were intended to silence all opposing and dissenting views, including those from politicians, the media, and the clergy.
