MCP proposes disqualification of DPP from 2025 presidential elections

Kabwila: Disqualify DPP

The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) is calling for the disqualification of the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) from contesting in next year’s presidential elections, following alleged remarks made by one of its members of parliament, Victor Musowa, that is believed to have incited violence.

MCP argues that such behavior threatens the peace and stability necessary for a free and fair election.

MCP claims that Musowa’s comments, made during a rally in the Ndirande area, were inflammatory.

“Musowa openly called on people to bar MCP followers and officials from holding rallies in Ndirande or shouting the ‘Kwacha’ slogan,” says MCP Publicist, Jessie Kabwila.

“These kinds of divisive remarks only serve to fuel violence and undermine the democratic process.”

Kabwila, strongly condemned Musowa’s comments, describing them as “dishonorable” and a clear indication of the violent tendencies within the opposition party. “Victor Musowa’s remarks are a direct threat to peace in this country,” Kabwila said in an interview.

“They show the true nature of the DPP, a party that is more concerned with chaos than democracy.”

Kabwila further emphasized that for the 2025 elections to be conducted peacefully, strict measures must be taken.

“The safety of our citizens and the integrity of the electoral process must come first. If we are to have a peaceful election next year, the DPP, given its violent rhetoric and actions, should be disqualified from contesting,” she concluded.

She insists that this is a necessary step to prevent any further escalation of political violence ahead of the upcoming elections.
