Silver Strikers FC are unofficially league champions after beating Mighty Mukuru Wanderers one-nil at the Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre in a TNM Super League title decider on Saturday, November 30th.

MacDonald Lameck scored the only net buster of the match to put the bankers ahead in the 53rd minute of the match owing to a Wisdom Mpinganjira mistake.

It was a tug of war on both ends, particularly Wanderers who were looking to level matters after the Silver goal but nothing doing for the Lali Lubani side.

The Central Bankers too pushed for a goal, missing countless times in front of the goal, to put their lead beyond all reasonable doubt.

In his analysis, Silver Strikers coach Peter Mponda said his charges were well-composed in the second half compared to the first.

“They were a tough side and they gave a good game in the first half but I told the boys to remain composed and focused and that’s how we managed to grab that crucial goal eight minutes into the second half of the game,” Mponda said.

His counterpart, Mighty Mukuru wanderers Coach Bob Mpinganjira felt they had a poor start to the half that dashed their hopes of defeating the high-flying Silver.

He said: “We did not defend well, especially during the breaks and counterattacks and unfortunately the bankers saw and took an opportunity. We tried to get a goal of our own but tough luck.”

The result means Silver Strikers now have some points to spare at 64, having won 18 games and 10 draws without losing. They have a match against relegation-bound 14th-placed Fomo FC in Mulanje on Wednesday.

For the Nomads, they now have lost and recorded 6 draws including 16 wins to earn them 54 points at this stage. They travel to Aubrey Dimba Stadium next Wednesday for a match with 8th-placed Creck Sporting who want to maintain their top 8 spot in the league
