Bullets, Creck interested in Mponda
Two TNM Super League clubs have expressed interest in employing Peter Mponda as their head coach after his impressive stint at Silver Strikers.
Third-placed FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and seventh-placed Creck Sporting Club are interested in offering Mponda a place as their mentor.
One of the local newspapers, The Nation, reported that Bullets officials recently dated their former assistant coach whom they see fit to succeed Kalisto Pasuwa who is teed up to become the national team head coach permanently.
The two are currently serving as head and assistant mentors for the Flames on an interim basis after the Football Association terminated the then-head Coach Patrick Mabedi.
Should Mponda change his mind, he may enjoy a K8 million salary. But he told an online site, Goal Malawi: “I am currently contracted to Silver Strikers. That’s all I can say.”
Mponda signed for the bankers on a 1-year contract from South African National First Division (NFD) side Black Leopards after the Area 47 giants canceled Pieter De Jongh’s contract at the club citing poor performance in the top-tier league.
His reign at the Lilongwe-based club has been rated highly by a majority of soccer pundits and fans specifically after guiding the central bankers to a 26-match undefeated streak in the TNM Super League.
Mponda however failed to spell progress in the Castel Challenge Cup competition – Round of 32 after a 4-3 loss in the post-match penalty shoot against lower division side Panthers FC.
The team also lost the final of the 2024 Airtel Top 8 to Kalisto Pasuwa’s FCB Nyasa Big Bullets by just a goal to nil courtesy of Ernest Petro’s header.
