Chawinga Sisters Face Off for 2024 MBC Football Award

Malawi senior women’s football team forwards Temwa and Tabitha Chawinga are set to battle for the 2024 MBC Entertainers of the Year Sports Award alongside midfielder Leticia Chinyamula.

The trio earned unanimous nominations after a stellar year of performances.

Temwa claimed the Golden Boot award for Kansas City FC in the US Women’s Super League, scoring an impressive 26 goals and providing 8 assists across all competitions.

Her dominance left 13 league teams in her wake.

Meanwhile, Tabitha, who was nominated for the prestigious Women’s Ballon d’Or, has so far netted 6 goals in 9 matches for Division 1 Féminine leaders Lyon.

Leticia Chinyamula also shone brightly, making the COSAFA Women’s Championship Best XI in South Africa. Domestically,

she leads the FAM Goshen Women’s League scoring charts with 13 goals for Ascent Academy, two ahead of Silver Strikers Ladies’ Chikondi Gondwe, who has 11 goals.

In the male category, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets midfielder Chrispine Mapemba, Mighty Mukuru Wanderers winger Isaac ‘Chair’ Kaliati, and Silver Strikers FC midfielder Chimwemwe Idana will vie for the Best Male Footballer of the Year award.

Additionally, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, Silver Strikers, and Mighty Mukuru Wanderers are in contention for Best Male Football Team of the Year.

In the female category, Nyasa Big Bullets, Ntopwa FC, and Ascent Academy are competing for Best Female Football Team of 2024 honors.
