UP advocates for respect for all grassroot political party leaders
The Umodzi Party is calling on fellow political parties to utilize their existing grassroots leaders to ensure a violent-free campaign in the run-up to the 2025 general elections.
The party emphasizes that the current political violence is a result of not respecting local leaders who have direct control over people in their areas.
Thomas Wezzie Kaumba, the party president, stresses that government officials should respect local leaders and follow established procedures when performing their duties.
“You cannot be boss everywhere you go. Understand jurisdictions and respect everyone accordingly,” he proposed.
He notes that ignoring local leaders’ authority can lead to violent incidents like the recent stoning of MCP campaign director Moses Kunkuyu’s motorcade, among others.
The Umodzi Party’s initiative aims to promote peaceful campaigning and respect for local leadership.
