Fuel crisis solutions underway-Matola
Minister of Energy Ibrahim Matola has reassured Malawians that the government is working tirelessly to resolve the ongoing fuel shortages that have disrupted daily life across the nation.
In a press statement issued today, Matola expressed empathy for the hardships citizens are facing, particularly parents struggling to transport children to school, businesses operating below capacity, and industries grappling with production challenges.
“This situation has disrupted lives across our nation. I am acutely aware of the sleepless nights many of you have endured in search of fuel. Let me assure you that my nights have also been restless,” Matola said.
The minister said the government has put in place several measures to address the crisis, including the processing of multiple fuel vessels at entry ports for immediate availability, securing essential foreign exchange facilities for procurement, and the operation of a 24/7 Crisis Response Technical Team to monitor and resolve disruptions.
While acknowledging the complexity of the global fuel supply chain, Matola assured Malawians that these efforts are already yielding positive results.
He also appealed for public cooperation to help ease the situation, urging citizens to avoid panic buying, report malpractices like hoarding and illegal vending, and maintain normal purchasing patterns.
“Your patience during this challenging time has not gone unnoticed, and I thank you for that,” he said.
“I commend our private sector partners, whose remarkable cooperation during this difficult time has been instrumental in addressing this crisis.”
Matola pledged that the government’s focus remains on implementing both immediate and sustainable solutions to ensure Malawi’s energy needs are met.
